Summer Workshops 2006

SESSION 6/GLASS / August 20 - September 1

NICK MOUNT - Searching for a Useful Form or Two

Is it true that we are each allocated only one really good idea and if so, how do we know if we have had it yet? This workshop will begin with discussion, research, and sketching but will quickly move on to designing in the glory hole. The idea will be to look around us, at the history of glass making, at contemporary glass, at other media, at our natural environment, at strange objects that have never been made in glass, and at the glass itself, to find a useful form or two that we can use in our own sculptural or functional work. We will work with forms to investigate the way the object responds to color, pattern, and texture.
